perfecting our trade

the right talent
The new business model for multimedia is pretty straightforward: laptop + brain = success. The world is now entirely digital, which means the real equation involves talent and ambition - two things we’ve never been short of at Richter Studios. We've harnessed a pool of exceptional in-house talent, including cinematographers, photographers, designers, animators, editors, marketers, and programmers who collaborate to provide solutions for any challenges of any size.

hardware
After our traditional sketches and concepts are shared and collaborated over, the team at Richter Studios then enjoys some face time with their Macs. As artists, we are always in search of perfection - and there’s no greater hardware on the planet than the ones that come out of Cupertino. All of our employees have Mac desktops with Apple HD displays. If you’re chasing down paradise in your work every day, why not live in it while you’re at it as well?

the right talent
Even though the world is entirely digital, there is still one traditional method that will never tire. The best ideas are the organic ones, and we insist that each of our employees sketch them out before constructing ones and zeros on their computers. Some of the most imaginative ideas in the world started on a simple pad of paper, including one by a gentleman drawing a mouse while on a train ride from New York to Los Angeles almost a century ago.

software
Ones and zeros don’t happen on their own, and that’s where some really handy software fits the bill. Richter Studios has a broad resume of work, but the software we use to realize our visions is actually pretty narrow. Our team of designers, animators, editors and programmers have very stringent demands. So who do we turn to when everything is on the line? Apple. Adobe. Luxology. And of course, Presented By Incorporated.
the right talent
As everyone out in the field already knows, the genie is out of the bottle - and we’re not turning back. Gone forever are the days of analog equipment and giant war rooms of specialized hardware. Richter Studios now champions an all-digital workflow. We shoot all of our video in the 1080P format and record directly to a hard drive. Having this immediate gratification allows us to focus on what really matters: the performance of the talent, the composition, and most importantly, how everything will translate onto the medium for the ages - the world wide web.

Before our team jumps into any project, we always do our research first. And as it turns out, some of the greatest research assistants ever created are only a few key strokes away. Having this unprecedented power at our disposal has dramatically improved our creative process. Before the creative process even begins, we give due diligence to understanding our client's industry and the competitive factors involved in successfully presenting their message.

Multi-Touch Displays aren’t quite a reality for animators and illustrators yet, so until that technology comes to pass, we’re sticking with tablets. Just like Picasso used a paintbrush, we create our graphics and animations in a similar fashion. Unlike a mouse, tablets enable our artists to draw and animate with extreme precision and flexibility.

Even though we pride ourselves on our all-digital workflow, there are still instances where the physical aspect is key to making the client's vision a reality. Whether at our studio or one of Chicago’s many venues, Richter Studios has years of experience working with green screens, white cycs and customized environments.

Caffeine is the secret elixir that has carried our team late into the night (a normal occurrence at the studio) on many occasions. But as good as caffeine has been to each of us, nothing tops music. Our entire team shares out their iTunes playlists so that there’s no shortage of creative fuel at the studio. One caveat: absolutely no knocking anyone else's playlist.
